Mamaroneck Fun Facts
Mamaroneck was purchased from a Native American chief and his brother, by an Englishman in 1661. Although it took many years of development, the area was slowly transformed into a thriving area in which people could live and thrive. Over the years, the town was home to many industries including chicken bouillon, coats, and even rubber. In the present day, boat building is the most prevalent industry and it even houses the estate of “Ripley’s Believe it or Not”, Robert Ripley. Moreover, the village is also nicknamed “The Friendly Village” as they are a diverse area that is very accepting of people from all backgrounds.
Besides being known as one of the best places to live in NYS, Mamaroneck is also home to the headquarters of the legendary comic brand, Archie Comics. First founded in 1939 as MLJ Magazines, this comic company has been producing well-loved comics for over 75 years. The United States Postal Service even honored the company’s work with a set of five commemorative postage stamps in 2010.
